10 Steps to Speed Clean Your House Before Guests Arrive
Speed-Clean your House within a few minutes and download the free printable checklist to make things super-easy for yourself!
You know that feeling when you are having fun with your kids, chilling around and enjoying the weekend, and suddenly your phone rings and it’s your aunt who tells you that she is in the neighborhood and is coming over within 25 to 30 minutes. And you are like “yeah, sure, most welcome!” But deep down, your heart is racing and you are so overwhelmed by the idea of a guest coming over right now. RIGHT NOW. IT’S-A BIG NO!!!!!
Not that you hate guests or the aunt that is coming over but it’s your home. It’s a mess. Your house is a disaster.
Toys are everywhere, clothes are laying around, you haven’t folded the laundry, didn’t wash the dishes yet, also didn’t clean the oven or counter. And you just have 30 minutes.
How can someone possibly clean up this mess in just 30 minutes? Well, you can! And you will!
We are women and not just ordinary women, we are moms aka superwomen. AND WE can do ANYTHING! Let’s be realistic, it’s not like I’m telling you that your house is gonna look in it’s the best shape but it’s going to look a lot more put together than before.
Ask your husband to get the kids dressed in their room and you, my girl, set a timer for 30 minutes and go get this house together.
First of all, let me tell you that you are only going to clean the areas where the guests are gonna sit or they are gonna see, so the living or family room, kitchen, dining room, entryway, and washroom.
1. BRING OUT YOUR BASKETS
Baskets are my best friends when it comes to speed-cleaning. You can just throw all the mess in there and deal with it later.
Bring out any basket, laundry bins, storage baskets, anything literally. Put the toys in one basket, clothes in the other, junk in another and all the other random stuff like chargers, headphones, and snacks in another one.
You have to work quickly. Just throw everything in and hide those baskets.put them baskets away. You can handle them later.
You can hide the baskets in kids’ room, laundry room, store room or even under the bed. (No one is gonna go there anyway)
The point is to clear the view.
2. PICK UP EVERYTHING & MAKE THE SPACE LOOK ORGANIZED
Now deal with the things you can still see and put them all in a basket. These are the things that have no specific space in your home. Just put them in a bag or basket and hide it.
3. FLUFF, FLUFF, FLUFF
Fluff up the couch and the cushions. Wipe the couch with your hands and pick up anything that is left behind. Put the throw blanket and throw cushions on the couch and wipe the coffee table.
YOUR ENTERTAINMENT SPACE IS CLEAN!
4. VISUALLY APEAL
From the living room, whatever you can see is what needs to be decluttered, like the kitchen. Put away the clean dishes and throw the dirty ones in the dishwasher. Clean and wipe the counters.
If the kitchen is extra messy, Just throw everything in the dishwasher. Just clean the space you think the guests will observe/notice.
5. WASHROOM
The living room (general) bathroom needs to be clean. Clean the toilet bowl, counter, and the sink. Wipe the mirror.
6. SNIFF SNIFF
Turn on a few candles, maybe a diffuser or spray the air freshener all over the space. Nobody likes dirty smelling houses.
7. BRUSH AWAY
Take out the broom and clean the living area and kitchen. If you want (and have time) vacuuming will be a better option.
Mopping is the very last option.
8. EXTRAS
Clear any clutter that can be seen from the living area. Use bins, baskets, and bags. Wipe any visual surfaces. Arrange the stuff.
Turn on the lights, chandeliers or even string/fairy lights. By simply adding a little touch of lighting you can transform the whole look. Everything automatically looks cleaner and cozier.
9. CLEAN THE ENTRYWAY
It’s all about first impressions! Go and clean that entryway. Put aside extra shoes. Put anything extra in a bin & hide!
10. EXTRA TIME:
If you still got some time, you can clean another washroom (just in case) and mop the floors and you are good to go!
Finally, get yourself together and the kids should be dressed by now, too. So you all are ready to be the best possible hosts.
I really hope you enjoyed!

July 17, 2018 at 1:48 pmYeah I understand how hard to prepare house clean when guests are dropping by. My two kids are so active, so our house seems to be a mess. Fortunately we don’t put too much stuff in our house so we can keep it decluttered..

July 17, 2018 at 6:31 pmLove this post! I get my best cleaning done when I find out I have company coming over!!! & the its the fasts cleaning I do. 🙂 Great tips – I will def have to get me some baskets. I am horrible about throwing things on to my bed because I know we do not let anyone in our bedroom when we have visitors.

July 18, 2018 at 6:50 amHaha, you’re so right. But when you have baskets, there’s no mess EVEN in the bedroom. I put everything in baskets and hide them under the bed or in the laundry room. Deal with ’em later. 😀 Perfect!
Do try and let me know how it went. 🙂 xx
